This MNRS Honor a Researcher program was established to give MNRS members an opportunity to honor their research colleagues for outstanding endeavors related to research. This program acknowledges that there are many research and research-related activities, such as mentoring, consulting, and collaborating, that never receive national awards, yet are vital to the building of nursing's knowledge base. In addition, there are many locally and regionally valued researchers who likewise are not properly recognized. This program provides a means of honoring and praising those among us who deserve to be recognized.
The program was designed to raise funds to support the research activities of MNRS. Donations made to the Honor a Researcher Program are used to support nursing research through the MNRS Foundation.

- a meritorious research project or program of research an outstanding research publication
- an excellent job of research mentoring or consulting
- having served as a worthy research collaborator
- any other meritorious endeavor related to research development, dissemination, or utilization.
Current Named Grants:
Dr. Beverly McElmurry Grant
Dr. Beverly J. McElmurry was one of the visionary researchers who founded the Midwest Nursing Research Society. MNRS is the premier regional research organization it is today as a result of the futuristic thinking and commitment to quality research of this founding group. Dr. McElmurry received the MNRS Senior Researcher Award in 1987 and the MNRS Distinguished Service Award in 2001 for her many accomplishments and contributions to MNRS and nursing research. She was committed to promoting research that would positively impact global health and the health of at-risk populations. She co-authored the book, Primary Health Care in Urban Communities, as well as many outstanding articles.
Among her many accomplishments as a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Dr. McElmurry mentored over 200 international scholars. Her mentees always accompanied her to MNRS and many reported their research on global health.
Dr. McElmurry passed away this past summer. We will miss her encouragement and vision as a member of MNRS. MNRS is asking your support to fund a research grant in her honor.
