Every year, the Midwest Nursing Research Society presents awards to selected members of the Society
who have made significant and notable contributions to the field of nursing through research.

This year, the nominations will be completed online. Please see below for the individual requirements for each award. Click here to upload the award requirements online.

The deadline for receipt of nominations for all awards is December 10, 2010.
 

 

The John A. Hartford Foudnation/MNRS Award for Leadership in Geriatric Nursing Research

Purpose

The purpose of this award is to recognize MNRS members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in geriatric nursing science, and who have impacted quality of care for older adults in the MNRS region through their scholarship and mentorship. The recipient(s) of this award will have conducted research that has guided and improved geriatric nursing practice and/or promoted science-based education in geriatric nursing.

Eligibility Requirements Nominees for the John A. Hartford Foundation/MNRS Award for Leadership in Geriatric Nursing Research must be regular members of MNRS in good standing and be nominated according to the process outlined. Research teams are eligible in addition to individuals.  First awarded in 2001.

Nomination information should include:

  • NIH Biosketch
  • 100 word narrative summary statement about the applicants accomplishments and/or contributions
  • Two letters of support that detail aspects of the nominee's leadership in geriatric nursing, as outlined in the purpose statement above.

The individual(s) selected will attend the Annual Conference and receive a plaque and cash award during the awards ceremony.

Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an MNRS member who has demonstrated dedicated service and an untiring commitment of furthering the development of the organization and its members. This service has been demonstrated through donated time, influential leadership and sustained service to MNRS. Nominees for this award must be members of MNRS for a minimum of 10 years.

Nomination information should include:

  • NIH Biosketch
  • 100 word narrative summary statement about the applicants accomplishments and/or contributions
  • Two letters of support that detail the nominee's significant contribution

Lifetime Achievement Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an MNRS member who has significantly advanced the profession of nursing either through an extensive program of research or creation of environments where research can flourish, and whose distinguished career yielded outstanding and noteworthy accomplishments. Nominees for this award must be regular or retired members of MNRS in good standing.

Nomination information should include:

  • 100 word narrative summary statement about the applicants accomplishments and/or contributions
  • Two letters of support that detail the nominee's significant contribution

Distinguished Contribution Award

The purpose of the Distinguished Contribution Award is to recognize the contribution of a member who has conducted or promoted research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region. Nominees must be members of MNRS in goodstanding and be nominated according to the established procedure. Nominees must agree to attend the Annual Conference and give a presentation at the Awards Ceremony. The criteria for the award are:

  • Evidence of outstanding contributions to nursing research.
  • Sustained record of contributions in nursing research and an ongoing program of research.
  • Have a sustained publishing record of research.
  • Have an earned doctorate.
  • Documented contributions of research, and research- related activities within the Midwest.

Nomination information should include:

  • NIH Biosketch
  • 100 word narrative summary statement about the applicants accomplishments and/or contributions
  • Two letters of support that detail the nominee's significant contribution
  • Two published research articles

Harriet Werley New Investigator Award

The purpose of the Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award is to recognize the contribution of a new investigator who has conducted nursing research that has the potential to enhance the science and practice of nursing. Nominees must be members of MNRS in good standing and be nominated according to the established procedure. Nominees must agree to attend the Annual Conference and the Awards Ceremony. The criteria for the award are:

  • The research should have been started within 5 years of completing the last formal research training and may not consist solely of dissertation research.
  • The research has the potential for enhancing the science and/or practice of nursing.
  • The publication record reflects the contribution to science and/or practice.
  • Nominee holds an earned doctorate and has completed his or her doctorate within the past 7 years.

Selection Process for Researcher Awards Nominations must be uploaded online by December 10, 2010. The MNRS Awards Committee reviews the nominations according to the criteria and makes recommendations to the Board for final approval. The Selection Sub-Committees for each award is comprised of a chair, who may be a board member, and three past award recipients who are MNRS members in good standing.
