Palliative & End of Life Care RIG

To promote and support research focused on palliative & end‐of‐life care. Our membership includes nurses with a broad range of research experience, from tenured professors who are established researchers with experience in securing grant funding and methodological expertise, to practitioners with clinical expertise related to end of life research, and nursing students whose passion lies in this area. This broad range of experience is useful in networking and sharing ideas regarding both theoretical and practical concerns in end of life research.

Who Should Join?

We welcome your participation in the Palliative & End of Life Care RIG. We are looking forward to meeting everyone who is interested in research regarding end of life issues, from symptom management during life-threatening illness to caregiver issues to grief management for the bereaved.

  • Significantly raise the profile of palliative & end of life care research at MNRS
  • Submit annual symposium focused on palliative & end of life care

2017-2018 Goals

Immediate Goals:

  • A competitive/guaranteed symposium focused on palliative and end of life research is planned for the 2018 conference.
  • Awards will continue to be offered by the RIG. Awards offered may change.
  • Promote mentorship and networking among members:
    • Update RIG directory of RIG members and their research interests to facilitate collaboration among RIG members.
    • Distribute bi-monthly email/LinkedIn post regarding item of interest to enhance communication among members (e.g. legislation, NINR initiatives, funding, manuscript, interesting blog post).
  • Highlight RIG members and their Palliative & End of Life Care research
    • Member Highlights to be posted on LinkedIn page and through email listserve
    • Post relevant publications to LinkedIn page when member is published
    • Annual updates to our palliative RIG web page with member publication citations from the last year
  • Start a virtual Journal Club

Future/3 Years Goals:

  • Improve/increase networking between RIG members outside of the Annual Meeting
  • Highlight the research and recognize the accomplishments of our members through all available mechanisms (e.g. MNRS website/MNRS Matters newsletter and Research Briefs.

RIG Listserv

A listserv is similar to a "group" email. When something is sent to the Listserv address, it is received by all subscribers assigned to the listserv. New and renewing members who choose to volunteer on a RIG will be automatically subscribed to the RIG's Listserv. Those who do not renew their dues with be automatically unsubscribed. The Listserv is updated weekly so it is always current.
